Connecticut Center for Patient Safety

2012 - $10,000

The January 2012 report of the Office of Inspector General confirms that hospital employees recognize and report only one out of seven errors, accidents, and other events that harm Medicare patients while they are hospitalized. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has published that 100,000 deaths from health care acquired infections each year.

The Connecticut Center for Patient Safety is an advocacy organization that offers seminars for medical professionals that feature real patient experiences to help these professionals understand the importance of patient safety. This grant will allow the Center to train more advocates, add and update their materials, and increase the number of nursing schools that they reach this year.
