Oral Health

Connecticut Mission of Mercy

2010 - $25,000

Fiscal Agent: Connecticut Foundation for Dental Outreach, Inc. The number of underserved and uninsured Connecticut residents that go without dental care is staggering. Thousands of individuals in the state suffer from progressive and cumulative dental disease, which affects their overall health, their ability to eat, and compromises their ability to work, go to school and lead a normal, pain-free life.

The Connecticut Mission of Mercy (CTMOM) is working to improve oral health in Connecticut by providing free dental care for as many residents as they can. With help from CT Health and other organizations, CTMOM provides care to children and adults who have little hope of receiving care. In separate free clinics over the past three years, CTMOM has treated nearly 5,000 individuals and provided more than $2.3 million in dental care. Staffed by almost 1600 dental professionals and community volunteers, the two-day annual program is the largest temporary dental office created in Connecticut.

Between 2008 and 2010 CT Health provided financial support of $75,000 that helped thousands of residents receive cleaning, restorative work, root canals, prosthetic repair, and resources for operative work and follow-up care. Patients also received preventative instruction for maintaining good oral health.

Improving oral health for thousands of low-income residents is no small job. But with organizations like CTMOM and CT Health working together, we can bring better health to more people every year.
