Planned Parenthood of Southern New England

2012 - $50,000

African American and Latina women experience significantly higher rates of unplanned pregnancy, which is associated with a host of negative health and social outcomes for women and their children. Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE) seeks to reduce the rate of unplanned pregnancy and barriers to access in these communities through leveraging the Connecticut Medicaid Family Planning Expansion. By enrolling more women of color into Medicaid, PPSNE aims to increase health care coverage and reduce unintended pregnancy by making these women eligible for more effective forms of birth control at no cost.
