The disparity in health outcomes for African American men is stark: the leading causes of death (nationally) among African Americans are heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, and accidents, and save for ‘accidents,’ is higher among African Americans than white people. Two year grant.

Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, located in the Asylum Hill neighborhood of Hartford, reaches a diverse section of the Hartford population. The Saint Frances Center for Health Equity, which is a partnership between the hospital and the Greater Hartford Urban League, will recruit and hire a Health Equity Fellow who will bring a better understanding of the health disparities among African American in Hartford through engaging within the hospital, the health care landscape, and the community.
