Public health is defined by the Institute of Medicine as “what we as a society do to assure the conditions in which people can be healthy and is grounded in social justice.” And yet research presented in the New England Journal of Medicine suggests that the public has a limited understanding of what public health is and what public health professionals do. To build trust in public health practice, researchers from the University of Hartford and partners from the Connecticut Department of Public Health and the Connecticut Association of the Directors of Health will conduct a study to understand and address current perceptions.
