Good Health—for Everyone
Every Connecticut resident should have access to quality health care. But it’s not that simple. Because of language and cultural barriers, inherent societal bias, and other factors, health disparities exist in racial and ethnic populations, even when there is ready access to health care.
Health disparities (avoidable differences in health status) are a stark reality in Connecticut’s communities of color. African American, Latino and ethnic populations are disproportionately affected by serious disease, in part because they encounter health care systems where people of color may be treated differently from white patients.
CT Health is committed to eliminating racial and ethnic health disparities. While we have traditionally emphasized community-driven health promotion and multicultural health programs in our grant-making, we’ve recently begun to focus promoting change in public sentiment and change in Connecticut’s health care system at large.
CT Health is dedicated to achieving two specific objectives:
- Create public will to decrease racial and ethnic health disparities in access and treatment.
- Improve the quality of systems that enhance patient-provider interactions in order to promote health equity.
