Foundation Awards $750,000 to Target Children Ages 6–14 at Risk of Mental Health Problems 10/5/09 Four organizations were awarded 18-month grants totaling $750,000 by the Connecticut Health Foundation Board of Directors to address the foundation’s goal of reducing the number of youth, ages 6-14, from entering the juvenile justice system and/or the most intensive levels of mental health treatment due to their mental health problems.

Connecticut Health Foundation Celebrates 10 Years of Supporting Health Care Changes 9/21/09 The Connecticut Health Foundation, the state’s largest independent, philanthropic organization, will celebrate 10 years of grant-making to improve the health of Connecticut’s residents on Thursday, Sept. 24, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the New Britain Museum of American Art, 56 Lexington Street in New Britain. Established on July 9, 1999, the foundation is dedicated to improving lives by changing health systems.

David Hadden, partner at Hartford-based Robinson & Cole LLP, attorneys at law; Robert M. Schreibman, DMD, MScD, a Glastonbury dentist; Victor Villagra, M.D., FACP, founder and president of Health & Technology Vector, Inc., a consulting firm in Farmington; and Hal L. Rives, III, president and co-founder of The New England Guild, Inc., Hartford-based investment advisors.

Health Center Receives $86,200 to Develop Health Literacy Initiative (7/14/09) New Haven-based Cornell Scott – Hill Health Center (HHC) was awarded an 18-month grant by the Connecticut Health Foundation (CT Health) Board of Directors to develop a model health literacy program designed to improve its patients’ interaction with their health care provider.

Proposed State Medicaid Changes Could Cost State $1.3 Billion (4/30/09) Close examination of the state’s 2010-2011 fiscal year budget proposals reveals that new and increased premiums for HUSKY, Connecticut’s Medicaid program, could cost the state $1.3 billion in new federal Medicaid funding, according to research released Thursday, commissioned by the Connecticut Health Foundation (CT Health). And thousands of children and adults covered by HUSKY may lose health care.
