Shake the Very Foundation: A 10 Year History, Receives National Award for Publication Excellence (APEX)

Connecticut Health Foundation publication among top U.S. organizations to be recognized for telling its story about improving the health of the people in Connecticut.

HARTFORD – August 17, 2011 – The state’s largest health foundation is pleased to  announce that its 10-year history report, Shake the Very Foundation (/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/10yearhistory-smaller.pdf), has won a national award from APEX , the Annual Awards for Publication Excellence Competition.  This year marked the 23rd annual awards for this international competition for writers, editors and publication staff, as well as business and nonprofit communicators. There were more than 3,700 entries, with 11 main categories and 127 subcategories.

“This report reflects a year-long commitment of an advisory board made up of staff and founding board members who wanted to tell the foundation’s story, and celebrate its accomplishments,” says Monette Goodrich, vice president of communications & public affairs.

In this report, you hear from grantees, health leadership Fellows, board members, and other partners about our work in children’s mental health, oral health and reducing racial and ethnic health disparities and public policy to improve health of people in Connecticut.

Shake the Very Foundation “competed” against 247 entries from across the country in this category and won the Awards of Excellence in the “One-of-a-kind Custom-Published Publications” small non-profit category.  Awards are based on “excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the success of the entry – in the opinion of the judges – in achieving overall communications effectiveness and excellence.”
