Physician and entrepreneur brings a view from the business side of health to board of directors
HARTFORD – The board of directors of the Connecticut Health Foundation (CT Health) selected Kenneth R. Alleyne, MD of Farmington to serve a one-year term during its recent quarterly meeting.
Kenneth Alleyne, MD, is a board certified sports medicine orthopedic surgeon practicing in Connecticut and Manhattan, and a Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Connecticut and Clinical Dean at the American University School of Medicine in Barbados. Alleyne also is a managing partner of Gardiner Ebers Consulting and Harthaven Partners, a healthcare consultancy and investment firm based in Connecticut and New York City. In addition, he is a founding partner of NextLevel Health Partners a Coordinated Care Entity.
“It is a privilege to join the foundation during this time of considerable transition in our health care delivery model in the United States,” said Alleyne. “Many of these changes are complimentary to the foundation’s focus on health care equity, which are key drivers of building successful, healthy communities,” said Alleyne.
“Alleyne’s appointment to CT Health’s board will play a vital role in moving forward our work to improve the health status of the state’s most unserved and underserved populations,” said board chairman Sanford Cloud Jr. “His combined experience as a practicing physician provides him with a front line view of the issues at the micro level, while his appointment to serve on the Connecticut Commission on Health Equity, provides a more macro view of the health care challenges facing the state.”
“I am excited about the ability to work alongside local and statewide leaders toward a singular goal of improving the level of and access to health care in Connecticut, in particular for our most vulnerable citizens,” Alleyne added.
The Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Williams College alumnus also served as a board member at Community Health Services, a Federally Qualified Health Center in Connecticut.
About the Connecticut Health Foundation
The Connecticut Health Foundation (CT Health) is the state’s largest independent health philanthropy dedicated to improving lives by changing health systems. Since it was established in July 1999, the foundation has supported innovative grant-making, public health policy research, technical assistance and convening to achieve its mission – to improve the health of the people of Connecticut. Over the past 12 years, CT Health has awarded grants totaling almost $51 million in 45 cities and towns throughout the state.
In April 2013, CT Health announced its five-year strategic plan to transition to expand health equity as a focus. For CT Health, health equity means helping more people gain access to better care, especially people of color. Better care includes physical, mental, and oral health.
