A note of thanks

A note from Tiffany Donelson, president and CEO of the Connecticut Health Foundation

It’s been a tough year. We’ve seen laws passed and decisions made that will make people’s lives harder and threaten people’s health and safety.

The recent suspension of food assistance to millions of Americans was a harsh reminder of the critical difference that policy choices make in the health and well-being of our communities, and of how fragile our safety net is.

In the midst of all this, I wanted to express that I am grateful for you. I saw communities come together to support each other and people taking care of their neighbors. I’ve seen countless examples of persistence and people doing the hard work through the storm. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to doing what it takes to make our state a fairer place, where everyone has the chance to live their healthiest lives. You give me hope.

There are times when it feels like the wind is at our backs and momentum is in our favor, and times, like now, when it seems like the gains we’ve worked toward are crumbling. We have been here before, and we know that the “arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice,” as Martin Luther King, Jr., reminded us. We will remain steadfast, working together toward a better, more equitable future.

Even in tough times, there is much to be thankful for. During this season, find your moments of joy and gratitude that will continue to fortify you.

I wish you and your families and friends a restful, restorative, and happy Thanksgiving.

All the best,

Tiffany
