African Caribbean American Parents of Children with Disabilities, Inc. (African Caribbean American Parents of Children with Disability, Inc. ) is one of four pilot communities involved in the Connecticut Health Foundation’s (CT Health) initiative to support diverse advocacy and consumer engagement in health reform. By engaging more organizations led by and serving consumers of color in health reform, the state’s health care access and delivery system transformations will be better positioned to equitably serve all Connecticut residents.
African Caribbean American Parents of Children with Disability, Inc. is a Hartford-based community agency that works to educate, empower and engage parents and the community to improve quality of life for children with special needs and others at risk of education inequity or system involvement. African Caribbean American Parents of Children with Disability, Inc. will conduct trainings designed to promote health literacy, advocacy, and a stronger consumer voice for communities of color in an aggressive one-year health access and enrollment education and outreach campaign.
African Caribbean American Parents of Children with Disability, Inc. ‘s initiative is aligned with CT Health’s health equity goal of developing and utilizing methods and strategies to bring the voices of consumers of color to key health reform decision making tables and organizations.
Grant funds will cover staffing, technology, and meeting expenses.
