Health Equity

Bridgeport Child Advocacy Coalition

2011 - $40,000

The health disparities affecting ethnic and racial groups in Bridgeport are alarming. For example, the 2009 mortality rate for Bridgeport African American infants is twice the rate of white infants, while the rate for Latino infants is 62 percent higher. To address these inequities, the Bridgeport Child Advocacy Coalition (BCAC) has created the “Building Public Will: Engaging the Suburbs to Address Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities in Bridgeport’s Children” which will build the public will for health equity by creating a network of suburban (e.g., Westport and Fairfield) advocates who will bring the issue to key decision makers and leaders.
