Center for Children’s Advocacy

2012 - $75,000

The Center for Children’s Advocacy uses the full complement of legal advocacy tools (direct client representation, litigation, work with state agencies and providers) to improve equity and access to services in children’s health, mental health, and special education systems. This general operating support grant will fund several opportunities, including: leadership and participation on a Department of Social Services task force, file a federal complaint regarding disproportionate suspensions of students with disabilities, advocate to have the Department of Children and Families (DCF) education consultants review records of children in their care, educate legislators about alternatives to school based arrests, and train pro bono attorneys to represent abused and neglected children in foster care.
