Legal Services Collaborative

2014 - $100,000

As the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is implemented, addressing eligibility and access issues for low-income residents is a necessary first step in improving health outcomes for the unserved and underserved.

Part of protecting and promoting the interests of these individuals is helping them understand the new options available to them under the ACA. Encouraging enrollment in the expanded Medicaid program, protecting coverage and benefits for those already eligible for Medicaid, and exploring options for low-income individuals not eligible for Medicaid are key activities. The New Haven Legal Services Advocacy Collaborative will use the full toolkit of legal advocacy (policy advocacy, research, class action litigation, education, mobilization, and advisory functions) to expand access to quality affordable health care for low-income residents of Connecticut.

This grant will provide general operating support.
