New Haven Legal Assistance Association

2013 - $100,000

As the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is implemented, it is important to both protect and promote the interests of low-income residents of Connecticut. Part of protecting the interests of these health care consumers and their providers is helping them understand the new options available to them under the ACA. This may be done by encouraging enrollment in the expanded Medicaid program, protecting coverage and benefits for those already eligible for Medicaid and exploring options for low-income individuals not eligible for Medicaid. The New Haven Legal Assistance Association recognizes that addressing eligibility and access issues for low-income residents is a necessary first step in improving health outcomes for people of color.

This grant will provide general operating support for the Legal Services Collaborative to use the full toolkit of legal advocacy to expand access to quality affordable health care for low-income residents of Connecticut.
