A broad body of research supports the link between depression and other issues of poor health for individuals identifying as LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and/or Transgender). Additionally, a 2011 study of more than 6,000 transgender people found that 19 percent of respondents reported being refused medical service, and for African American and Latino respondents that number increased to 21 and 23 percent respectively.
To increase the number of culturally competent providers, True Colors, in collaboration with the Connecticut Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, will produce two teleconferences for medical providers regarding the health care needs of LGBT youth.
