YMCA of Greater Hartford

2013 - $25,000

Obesity and poor nutrition remain a major barrier to the long-term health and wellbeing of many Americans, particularly underserved African American and Latino populations. In 2012, the City of Hartford, Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, Hartford Hospital, and Saint Francis Hospital, published Healthy Hartford: A Community Health Needs Assessment, a report that highlights key health indicators for Hartford residents.

The YMCA of Greater Hartford has received federal funding to address the high rates of obesity and lack of access to healthy food, and has formed the racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) coalition in partnership with 19 organizations. This grant will help support the YMCA’s efforts to reduce obesity in North Hartford.
