Health Foundation Appoints New Board Member

Labor and Negotiations Law Expert, Robert Krzys, Brings Wealth of Experience from Public Sector

NEW BRITAIN, CONN.  July 27, 2010 – The board of the Connecticut Health Foundation (CT Health) recently selected Robert Krzys to serve a one-year term.

“This is an exciting time for the foundation and Krzys’ appointment will play a vital role in moving forward CT Health’s work to support children’s mental health, oral health and reducing racial and ethnic health disparities,” says Board Chair Sanford Cloud Jr.  “Krzys clearly has shown real leadership in serving the state’s employees through his legal and negotiations expertise.”

Prior to starting private practice, Krzys was staff counsel for the Connecticut State Employees Association from 1979 – 1984. He established his private practice in 1985 and has worked on behalf of Connecticut’s state employees for 25 years.  His practice focuses on labor law and collective bargaining negotiations representing unions, especially in the public sector.

In accepting his appointment, Krzys, whose term on the CT Health board will run from June 2010 to June 2011, noted: “I am extremely pleased to accept the foundation’s invitation to join its distinguished board of directors, and to serve a foundation that has done so much great work over the years to improve the health of Connecticut’s residents.”

Active in his community, Attorney Krzys serves on the Regional 7 Board of Education and the Building Committee that oversaw the renovation and expansion of the middle and high schools. He also spearheaded the political action committee that advocated for the passage of a $20 million referendum to authorize the building project.  Krzys is a member of the New Hartford Water Pollution Control Authority and was recently certified as an English teacher through Connecticut’s Alternate Route to Certification Program.  He also served as chairman of the New Hartford Democratic Town Committee.

“It is my hope that the collective bargaining experience I have gained from negotiating health care coverage for working people will allow me to positively contribute to the work of the Connecticut Health Foundation,” says Krzys.

The Connecticut Health Foundation (CT Health) is the state’s largest independent health philanthropy dedicated to improving lives by changing health systems.  Since it was established in July 1999, the foundation has supported innovative grant-making, public health policy research, technical assistance and convening to achieve its mission – to improve the health of the people of Connecticut.

Over the past 10 years, CT Health has awarded 530 grants totaling more than $41 million in 44 cities and towns throughout the state in three priority areas:

  • Improving access to children’s mental health services
  • Reducing racial and ethnic health disparities
  • Expanding access to and use of children’s oral health services
