About 20 percent of all children struggle with diagnosable mental illness; only 20 percent to 25 percent of those children have access to appropriate services. That leaves more than 100,000 Connecticut children and families struggling with mental illness on their own, increasing the risk for poor health and economic outcomes.
The Connecticut Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) supports the Keep the Promise (KTP) Coalition Children’s Committee, which has been active for more than a year in facilitating activities focused on children’s mental health. The Connecticut Health Foundation’s grant will support KTP’s Children’s Committee in building the capacity to advocate for children’s mental health and developing and implementing a marketing campaign promoting the importance of school based mental health.
