Oral Health

Connecticut Association of School Based Health Centers

2014 - $40,000

The Connecticut Association of School Based Health Centers (CASBHC) is one of three organizations selected to expand their health policy agenda to include advocacy for better dental health for low-income residents. CT Health’s Oral Health Advocacy and Leadership Initiative, a grant program of the foundation, seeks to expand oral health champions beyond traditional “teeth people,” or dental professionals.

School based health centers, or SBHCs, are an important part of the health safety net for students in elementary, middle, and high schools. CASBHC has 88 SBHCs in 22 Connecticut communities, to which they provide technical assistance and training.

With this grant, CASBHC will promote the integration of dental health care into medical care services, and bring the voices of students into this work to also advocate for improved oral health access.
